Save Burns Beach Bushland

The Burns Beach Ratepayers, Residents and Community Recreation Association recently created 'The Friends of Burns Beach Bushland'. The aim is to pull together all the concerned individuals and organizations who are trying to prevent Lot 2 Burns Beach from being turned into a housing development. Working together we can demonstrate to Parliament how strongly we value our natural heritage, and require of our representatives the protection of the bushland for the sake of current and future generations.

The land concerned is situated between the suburbs of Burns and Mindarie, west of Marmion Avenue, and covers 290 hectares. Lot 2 Burns Beach has been designated by the Environmental Protection Authority (in Bulletin 880) as regionally significant bushland. The EPA has twice found the proposed development, excepting the south eastern 55ha, environmentally unacceptable. We regard the 55 hectares as significant too. Already we have lost so much bushland to development that the ability to maintain healthy populations of flora and fauna has been much reduced. The area is a green break in the urban sprawl, providing coastal open space in a developing region, and could become a superb natural asset for Joondalup.
